In this course, students will explore the arts from the creative perspective as well as the behind the scenes support structures that make the arts accessible to the public. Students will experience working as an artist, experimenting with different media, as well as marketing and production in the visual and performing arts. Students will form their own production company and manage JKO arts events. This course also exposes students to career choices in the arts which can merge their creative side with their business skills.  Students receive credit for art and business in this double period course.

 

In this course, we will take an in depth look at how art and culture are related. We will explore different disciplines in the arts and how the use of media expresses an artist's intent. We will create art and explore art with New York City as our classroom. Trips to museums, cultural venues, and the streets of New York will all be our learning tools. This is a double period course which fulfills music and art graduation requirements.

This course exposes students to an alternative way of seeing the world through the exploration of art history, readings, and studio art projects. These projects include drawing, color compositions, design, sculpture, and mixed media compositions.

In this course we will explore the origins of music, the instruments used to create it, as well as the ways in which music impacts our lives. We will study different genres and time periods tracing a timeline to contemporary music.
